Turn your Burns Night into a Free-From Fest!

But Burns Night can still be enjoyed! There are many alternative options out there that can be prepared from scratch or bought pre-made, to ensure that any free-from Burns Night goes perfectly!

Check out the recipe below for some inspiration for your own event. This will impress meat-eaters and non-meat eaters alike and can be enjoyed any time.

Ingredients:

2 leeks – finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic – minced
1 tbsp oil
2 carrots – finely chopped
75g chestnut mushrooms – finely chopped
2 tsp all-spice
75g split peas
75g gluten-free oats
50g buckwheat
50g ground almonds
500ml vegetable stock
1 tbsp Soy sauce
2 tsp Vegan Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp Marmite
Salt and pepper to taste

Method:
Soak the peas for about an hour until soft.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
Sauté the leeks and garlic in the oil until softened. Add the carrots and stir until soft, then add the mushroom and continue to stir until they begin to soften. Add the spices and mix.
Add the peas, oats, buckwheat and ground almonds and mix. Add the stock and leave to simmer for thirty minutes, until the peas are tender.
Add the sauces and marmite and season to taste. Spoon the mixture into a pudding basin. Cover the basin with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for a further twenty minutes, or until the haggis had started to brown.
