Things have been busy at Pudology (head over here to find out why). The year has flown by and I was shocked to realise that it was already Valentine’s Day! Of course, Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to spoil your loved ones (or yourself) – flowers, chocolates or a weekend getaway are certainly on my dream list.
Unfortunately, eating away from home can be tricky for those of us who lead free-from lifestyles. It’s hard to believe that there are still places with no idea what constitutes a vegan or gluten-free diet! This could lead to a rather more miserable evening than you were hoping for: totally unacceptable – especially on Valentine’s Day. To help ensure your own Valentine’s weekend goes not only smoothly, but smashingly, we put our heads together and came up with some of our favourite free-from places to eat and stay in the UK! (I know, we really do love you guys!)
The UK plays host to several B&Bs which cater for special dietary requirements. Yes, you can pay for someone else to make you a vegan breakfast. Yes, this weekend is going to be special!
Loaf B&B, Northumberland – a delicious breakfast menu offering vegan and gluten-free alternatives for those who are interested. The menu ranges from angelically healthy smoothie bowls to a more sinful ‘full veggie’ complete with tofu scramble.
Michael-House Guest House, Cornwall – use local, fairly traded ingredients to create delicious breakfasts and dinners. They also offer vegan wines and beers – perfect for a romantic weekend!
If you’re looking for something that caters for a gluten-free diet, then look no further than Mad Hatter’s Tea Pot Café in Southport – their cakes are made fresh on the day!
El Piano in York is another perfect way to spend your evening! All food is homemade and plant-based, and those who avoid gluten can easily be catered for.
Dairy and Gluten Free Truffle Recipe
If you’re looking for something a bit closer to home, or rather – your kitchen, then look no further than our chocolate truffle recipe! As a chocolate lover and self-confessed Pudology addict, I was desperate to combine the two in an eyeball-poppingly scrumptious new recipe that could also be used as a Valentine’s Day gift. The contrast between the snappy chocolate shell and the smooth ganache centre makes these my new favourite treat. What’s more, they are seriously simple and quick to whip together. You will leave everyone assuming that you’ve spent hours creating these delectable delights!
So, be prepared for ooohs of approval and chocolates that will be eaten almost as quickly as they can be made!
